Quantity Surveying is the profession within the building and engineering construction sector of the economy concerned with the cost and procurement management from conception and close-out of any construction project.
The Profession came out of the need to separate the cost and management functions of building and engineering projects from the design functions in order to achieve checks and balances in the system and the independence necessary for efficiency, effectiveness and value for money. Thus, it combines the understanding of the design process and the knowledge of the construction process which are pre-requisites for competent estimating and cost management.
