THE PRESIDENTQS NZEKWE KENE CHRISTOPHER BSc. (QS), MIAD, MSc. (QS), RQS, FNIQS, FICEN

QS NZEKWE KENE CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE was born on the 9th of June, 1966 in Lagos, Nigeria. His parents were among the first batch of Igbo public servants that were transferred to Northern Nigeria after the civil war in 1971, precisely to Zaria Kaduna State. He had his primary school education at Maramara Primary School Sabon Gari, Zaria from 1972 – 1978. He then proceeded to Government Secondary School, Zaria (now Alhudahuda College, Zaria) from 1978 – 1983 for his Secondary School Education. From 1983 – 1985, he was at Federal Government College, Kaduna for his Higher School Certificate (HSC). He obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) in Quantity Surveying from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1990. He also obtained a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD) from 2001 – 2003 at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and another Master of Science Degree in Quantity Surveying from 2011 – 2014 at the same institution. He became a corporate member of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) and fully registered Quantity Surveyor in 1999 respectively. In 2001, the Institute of Corporate Executives of Nigeria (ICEN) inducted him as a Fellow (FICEN) and in 2017 he was elevated into the Fellow cadre of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS).

He has had a fulfilling and rewarding professional work career with the following organizations: First Bank Plc Regional Office (North) Kano (1990 – 1991, NYSC) where he worked as a Quantity Surveyor, Space Makers Nig. Ltd. (1991 – 1992) where he also worked in the same capacity, at Ahmadu and Partners (1992 – 1998) where he worked as a Senior Quantity Surveyor and he is presently working at Bill Cost Development Partnership (1998 till date) in the capacity of a Managing Partner.

He has participated in varied range of projects in the past and presently; a few of them are listed hereto: CBN Governor’s Residence Wuse II, Abuja, 5N0 CBN Deputy Governors’ Residences Maitama, Abuja, JAMB Headquarters Bwari, Abuja, Remodeling of all Mainstreet Bank Branches in Nigeria, Sharia Court of Appeal Project, Bauchi, Bauchi State, Project Management & Cost Management Consultancy Retainership for NHRC, Ultra-Modern Skills Acquisition and Vocational Centre, for Federal Ministry of Labour & Employment Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Skills Acquisition Centres in Anambra, Kano, Kogi, Bauchi, Imo & Ogun States Federal Ministry of Labour & Employment, Bilingual Education Projects for the 3 Senatorial Zones in Nasarawa State for IsDB, Consultants to BPP for the Monitoring and Surveillance of on-going projects of the Federal Government, Consultants to NSITF for their Fund wide projects.

In July 2003, he was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to Anambra State Governor at the time of His Excellency Dr. Chris N. Ngige. He was re-deployed as SSA/Executive Chairman, Anambra State Poverty Alleviation Agency known as Anambra State Volunteer Service Agency. In August 2007, he was elected chairman, Anambra State Chapter of NIQS, a position in which he served for two terms until August 2011. In 2019, he was elected to serve as the Vice President, NIQS – 2019 to November, 2021. At the NIQS BEGM in November, 2021 he was elected the Deputy President of NIQS for the period November, 2021 to November, 2023. Between November, 2021 – November, 2023 he served as Chairman Membership Committee of NIQS and Chairman Registration and Certification Committee of QSRBN respectively.

He served in the following ad-hoc committees of NIQS: NIQS 2-day Think-Tank session to review the draft 2011 budget of the Federal Government of Nigeria (Member), and NIQS constitution review committee, 2010 (Member). During his tenure as the Anambra State Chapter Chairman, the chapter made donations of several textbooks to the Department of Quantity Surveying at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka. He served as the Chairman, Education and Training Committee of NIQS (2019 – 2021), he was also Member of the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) – 2019 to 2021. At the board, he served in two committees namely; Monitoring and Enforcement Committee as the Chairman of the Committee and the Accreditation Committee as Member. He was a team member of the Advisory Accreditation Team to Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State – 2021. He midwifed the E-Logbook/Diary that was launched by the NIQS President – Mal. Mohammed Abba Tor (FNIQS) on 29th July, 2021.

He has carried out several academic and professional publications of which to mention but a few: A seminar/workshop paper titled “The Nigerian Quantity Surveyor and Value Engineering” – QSRBN (2014), Assessment of Organisational Leadership for Knowledge Management Practice in the Nigerian Construction Industry – ABU Zaria (2014), Project Monitoring and Evaluation as a Value-for-Money (VfM) tool – QSRBN (2015) and The Role of Project Monitoring and Evaluation in the Good Governance Matrix – QSRBN (2016). Other publications/papers include; Assessment of Organisational Leadership and Knowledge Management Practice in the Nigerian Construction Industry – (Adogbo, KJ; Kolo, BA and Nzekwe, KCL – 2017) published in Journal of Construction Project Management and Innovation. A paper titled “Organisational Leadership and Performance Management for Improved Service Delivery” presented at the management retreat for Development of Implementation Roadmap for Department of Water Resources Planning and Technical Support Services of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja (2019).

In the aspect of social activities, he was the Vice Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association at Zamani College Kaduna (2014 – 2017). He is Currently the Director of Welfare for the Elders’ Forum of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Revelation Sanctuary Parish, Barnawa, Kaduna. Between 1989 – 1990, he was the President National Association of Quantity Surveying Students (NAQSS) OAU, Ile-Ife.

He is happily married to Pharm. Dr. M. U. Nzekwe and the marriage is blessed with three wonderful boys.

His hobbies are reading, football and golf.
